RASTERTOOL Application
The Army Geospatial Information Center, for all the cartographic series it produces, converts all vector information (Geographic Database) into raster information, thus creating the Cartographic Database, and then this information raster goes to the printer for the production of analog information (the printed letter).
The processing of all information includes a set of processes and activities that allow its further availability, which are listed below:
- (a) Management and maintenance of automatic prepress and plotter printing processes of all internally processed sheets;
- (b) Research and analysis of new prepress methodologies and color control in printed sheets;
- (c) Rasterization, treatment and georeferencing of cartography for the cartoteca, for internal processes and to make available to the public;
- (d) "On Demand" availability of raster cartographic products for the satisfaction of specific requests.
They are all complex, time-consuming and expensive processes compared to the numerous software that is used in the treatment of all information which has made us develop an R&D project for optimization related to the editing and treatment of raster information directed to the optimization of the Production Chain.
Thus, the purpose of the RASTERTOOL application, framed in the VIGeo3D (3D Geospatial Information Validation) project, it is to provide a set of functions, in the same application, with certain features that innovate and optimize the Military Charter Production Chain, Scale 1/25 000, Series M888, M889 and P821, with a methodology that allows the creation, editing and visualization of images in a quick, easy and intuitive way, simplifying and perfecting procedures.
