Implementation of a space infrastructure to generalize the Military Charter 1:25 000

Cartographic generalization is a complex task of automating since it depends on several independent factors, such as the different scales involved, the geometric characteristics of geographic entities, topological relationships and contextualization.

The generalization process optimizes material and human resources and on some sheets 1:50 000, reduced more than 60% of the preparation time. Its implementation was carried out partially in proprietary software specific for cartographic generalization and has been adapted and improved over the years. The implemented process presents some complexity due to the different software on which it is supported. Being effective, it presents the limitations of file-based systems.

As a result of new requirements of the current conjuncture, due to the advantages of GIS and databases, it was decided to initiate the migration of geographic data to a relational database and to integrate the various algorithmic components into an integrated system of cartographic generalization. It is intended to automate the process of semantic and geometric generalization of the letter 1:25 000 for other smaller scales. A case study was developed for the generalization of the military charter 1:25 000 for the military charter 1:50 000.
