Military Academy
A military university public higher education establishment, responsible for training army officers Portuguese and the Republican National Guard. It also offers other cycles of studies open to civil society.
The headquarters of AM is in Lisbon, in the Palace of Bemposta (also known as "Paço da Rainha" or "Quartel de Gomes Freire"). In addition to the head, AM also has a pole in the city of Amadora.
Mission
The Military Academy (AM) has the mission to train Officers for the permanent staff of the Army and the Republican National Guard, enabling them to perform the functions that are statutoryly assigned to them, to confer the appropriate skills for the fulfillment of the missions of the Army and gnr and to promote individual development for the exercise of command, direction and leadership functions.
Vision
Affirm the Military Academy as a training school for Commanders and higher education institution military university of national and international reference, for the excellence and specificity of its teaching, research and service to the community, in particular in the areas of special interest for security and defense, based on the culture of values and strengthened by the value it confers on the Army, the Republican National Guard and society.
Values
The AM develops, in the context of scientific, military and behavioral training, a wide range of activities aimed at supporting students in the identification and acceptance of culture and framework of values institutionally established by the Army and GNR. In this way, it practices, instills, develops and consolidates in students specific and indispensable timeless principles of their vocation, which are systematized in the values that are presented below:
- PATRIOTISM: Feeling of devotion, pride, surrender, love and service to the fatherland, even with the sacrifice of one's life, in line with the motto of the Military Academy: "It is sweet and honorable to die for the Fatherland";
- HONOR: Virtuous and integral conduct, sustained in the nobility, honesty, dignity, respect, firmness of character, justice and morally correct and dignified actions, defenders of the Homeland, the Portuguese, the Constitution, the Democratic Rule of Law, and the Military Institution;
- DUTY: Commitment to serve whenever and wherever necessary, regardless of difficulties or dangers but always with ethics, integrity and respect for the rights of others;
- COURAGE: Ability to face adversity or to explore opportunities, in the defense of people, goods, innovative ideas and values, but always with determination, knowledge and reason;
- LOYALTY: Animic strength of discipline, embodied in the commitment and practice of truth in all circumstances, to superiors, peers and subordinates, in fidelity to ethical principles, basic elements of camaraderie;
- SECURITY: Fundamental right and condition for citizens to live in peace, democracy and freedom and guarantees of the independence, integrity and solidarity of the Homeland.
